A Blessing Ring for Cards

A Blessing Ring for Cards is a simple sturdy ring that holds greeting cards, bible quotes, inspirational quotes, etc, to keep the cards and small mementos organized to hang on a doorknob or someplace else handy to grab to look through as a reminder of a special occasion, or for encouragement, comfort or inspiration. Add a few ribbons, maybe some blank tags for the recipient to write something that they want to remember.

This is a wonderful little gift to give to someone, or even to make for yourself. A Blessing Ring is perfect for any occasion where a lot of cards are anticipated. It’s pretty inexpensive to make, and can be simple or fancy. The recipient will continue adding their own cards, etc to it make it more personal.

It’s the perfect gift for:

Graduations.
Wedding showers. Lay some tags out for friends and family to write out marriage tips.
I filled one with inspirational quotes in bright colors perfect for a granddaughter going off to college.
It would be an adorable baby shower gift to hold all the baby cards. Lay out some blank tags for people to write motherly advice for the new mom.
A Retirement Blessing Ring.
Perfect for birthdays cards, too! Especially the milestone birthdays.
Or sympathy cards for those who have lost a loved one.
I imagine seniors who live alone or in a nursing home, would love to have one handy to add cards and notes as they arrive in the mail.

If you have been saving awesome quotes and inspirational messages on Pinterest, print some relevant pictures on cardstock and then cut them out to use. If you have pretty handwriting, just make some tags as described below and hand write the quotes.

Here’s a few left over from when I made my granddaughter’s Blessing Ring. I put about 25 quotes in different shapes and colors, and printed on cardstock for her ring. The two long quotes below I designed on my computer. I used my decorative scissors to cut some of her quotes down to size.

My dear friend just found out she has cancer and has already began receiving cards, so I am making this one her. The directions are the same for whatever kind of Blessing Ring you would like to make, but I have included a couple of ideas at the end of this post specifically for someone with cancer or a serious illness.

I didn’t add a lot to this Blessing Ring, because I know my friend will receive a ton of cards. I’ll probably send a couple of more ribbon pieces with a card in a few weeks after she has added a few more cards.

I gave her a paper punch too, that has the paper catcher on it to save her getting paper dots all over the place.

How to Make a Blessing Ring

You’ll need:

wire ring necklace (major craft stores carry them in the jewelry department)
paper punch (buy a new one to include with the Blessing Ring)
ribbon, lace, or 1″ strips of fabric
2 or 3 greeting cards or printed quotes to get it started (I pulled a couple of cards out of a box I had purchased earlier, or pick up a couple at the store)
Optional: tags or scrapbook paper shapes

You can buy ready made shipping tags, but I have a printable of 2 tag shapes (about 4.5″ x 7″) that you can print on cardstock or sturdy scrapbook paper to make your own tags. Or just wing it, and cut the tags out free hand.

Add the instructions first to the side with the stop (the little ball).

Punch a hole in the top left corner of each card and add it to the ring.

Tie a few ribbons on the ring. Add a couple of blank tags, in case the recipient wants to add some special notes.

I found the following free printable for you that fully explains the purpose of your gift to add to the front of the Blessing Ring. I was able to change the font in WORD after I downloaded it to one that was easier to read.
